“The Tempest” by Povilas Makauskas is an experimental interpretation of the last play by W. Shakespeare. Makauskas performance is surreal comedy, allegoric, alchemic fable, that connects sorcery, magic, mystical initiation, alchemic conversion, transformative inner wandering and genesis of esoteric worldview.
This allegoric utopia will sway audience into forceful tempest, that’ll not only bring back the age of Renaissance but also will initiate rethinking of moral values, return to primordial, vital human nature and invite to try to perceive existence that is uncommon today.
Director P. Makauskas: “This fairy tale teaches many things. First of all, what is very important for me, as a young adult, it teaches not to give up and not to be caught in particular planes. This fairy tale reminds me the importance of love and its intense transformative energy and how much it is needed in contemporary world.
Povilas Makauskas is a theatre director. He graduated in theatre directing from Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2016. He made his debut in Lithuanian Drama Theatre with a play “Yolo” (2014). Later in the same theatre he staged “Happy Price” based on Oscar Wild’s tale (2015), in National Youth Theatre “Possession” based on “Brother Karamazov” by F. Dostoyevsky and “Pelican” (2018) by A. Strindberg.
“The Tempest” is the last work by W. Shakespeare (1564 – 1616). It was written in XVII a. when disappointment by humanist ideals and deterioration of moral values was prevalent in the society. Different magic events, fables and sorcery are intertwined in the play.
